Featuring: Gene Luen Yang brought the legendary Chinese tale Journey to the West into Magic: The Gathering through the expressive comics style of the acclaimed graphic novelist. The artwork explored the contrasting personalities of the pilgrims, from Monkey’s mischief and Pigsy’s appetite to Sandy’s strength and Tripitaka’s discipline. By focusing on the group’s clashing temperaments and shared journey toward spiritual growth, the collection captured the humor, friction, and perseverance that have kept the classic story alive across generations.

Secret Lair Cards
Tripitaka, Seeker from Tang (Dosan the Falling Leaf)
Players can cast spells only during their own turns.
Pigsy of the Eight Precepts (Ilharg, the Raze-Boar)
Trample
Whenever Ilharg attacks, you may put a creature card from your hand onto the battlefield tapped and attacking. Return that creature to your hand at the beginning of the next end step.
When Ilharg dies or is put into exile from the battlefield, you may put it into its owner's library third from the top.
Sandy, Awakened to Purity (Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs)
Whenever a creature an opponent controls attacks, if you're the defending player, create a 3/3 red Ogre creature token unless that creature's controller pays {3}.
Monkey, Awakened to Emptiness (Kibo, Uktabi Prince)
{T}: Each player creates a colorless artifact token named Banana with "{T}, Sacrifice this token: Add {R} or {G}. You gain 2 life."
Whenever an artifact an opponent controls is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, put a +1/+1 counter on each creature you control that's an Ape or a Monkey.
Whenever Kibo attacks, defending player sacrifices an artifact of their choice.
Whenever a creature you control becomes tapped, you may put a quest counter on this enchantment.
As long as there are four or more quest counters on this enchantment, untap all creatures you control during each other player's untap step.
Given the rarity and limited information on some bonus cards, this may not be a complete list of all potential bonus cards available in this Secret Lair.
Darien, King of Kjeldor
Whenever you're dealt damage, you may create that many 1/1 white Soldier creature tokens.
First strike
When this creature enters, if an opponent controls more lands than you, you may search your library for a Plains card, put it onto the battlefield, then shuffle.
